Your hybrid battery works together with several electrical, mechanical, cooling, and charging systems in your vehicle. Proper vehicle use and maintenance can help protect the battery, support reliable performance, and prevent avoidable damage.
The information below explains how to care for your PriusKings hybrid battery, which vehicle conditions may affect its performance, and what may be required when requesting warranty assistance.
Warranty coverage is determined by the terms that applied to your original purchase. Following these care requirements does not guarantee coverage, but failure to follow applicable warranty terms or address other vehicle problems may affect warranty eligibility.
1. Drive the Vehicle Regularly
Hybrid batteries are designed to be used. Regular driving allows the vehicle to charge and balance the battery through normal engine operation and regenerative braking.
Unless the warranty provided with your purchase states otherwise, the vehicle must be driven for at least 45 minutes during every 21-day period. Simply starting or idling the vehicle may not satisfy this requirement.
If the vehicle will not be used for an extended period, arrange for it to be driven appropriately and make sure the 12-volt battery is properly maintained. Extended inactivity can contribute to battery discharge, imbalance, reduced performance, or failure and may affect warranty eligibility.
2. Keep the Hybrid Battery Cooling System Clear
The hybrid battery produces heat during normal operation and depends on its cooling fan and air intake to maintain a safe operating temperature.
Keep the cooling-fan intake unobstructed and free from dust, pet hair, fabric, luggage, and other debris. Its location varies by vehicle but is commonly near or beneath the rear passenger seat.
A blocked, dirty, damaged, or improperly operating cooling system can cause overheating, reduce battery performance, and contribute to premature battery failure. The cooling fan and intake should be inspected and cleaned as part of regular vehicle maintenance.
3. Maintain the 12-Volt Battery
The 12-volt battery powers the vehicle’s computers, relays, and control systems. A weak or failing 12-volt battery can cause warning lights, starting problems, communication faults, and symptoms that may be mistaken for hybrid-battery failure.
Have the 12-volt battery tested periodically and replace it when necessary. Jump-starts, incorrect connections, low voltage, or repeated discharging can create additional electrical problems.
4. Address Other Vehicle Problems Promptly
The hybrid battery operates as part of the vehicle’s complete electrical and mechanical system. Engine problems, inverter or charging-system faults, wiring damage, ECU problems, cooling-system failures, parasitic drains, and other unresolved conditions can affect hybrid-battery performance or contribute to repeated failures.
Recent repairs, accidents, jump-starts, transmission problems, or electrical work should be disclosed when requesting warranty assistance. PriusKings may require other vehicle conditions to be diagnosed or repaired before authorizing battery service.
5. Protect the Battery From Water, Moisture, and Corrosion
Water leaks, flooding, condensation, corrosion, and moisture inside the vehicle can damage the hybrid battery, wiring, connectors, control modules, and high-voltage components.
Any water intrusion or corrosion should be professionally diagnosed and corrected promptly. Damage caused by water, corrosion, contamination, or another vehicle condition may not be covered under the battery warranty.
6. Do Not Open, Modify, or Disconnect the Battery
The hybrid battery contains dangerous high voltage and should only be handled by properly trained personnel.
Do not open, alter, modify, disassemble, or attempt to repair the battery. Work performed by an unauthorized person, or damage caused by improper handling, installation, removal, or modification, may affect warranty coverage.
7. Warning Lights Do Not Confirm Battery Failure
Dashboard warning lights and changes in vehicle performance do not automatically mean the PriusKings hybrid battery has failed. Several interconnected vehicle systems can create similar symptoms.
A complete diagnostic scan is normally required before warranty service can be evaluated. The report should include all diagnostic trouble codes, subcodes or information codes, and codes from the hybrid-control system—not only a verbal description or the results from a basic code reader.
